Rain disrupts game and interesting matches get abandoned. Just like the current south africa vs. india ODI. This totally turns off viewers and the sports loses its appeal. On one hand it shows carelessness of ICC, as with modern science weather can be predicted 3 to 4 days in advance very easily. ICC fails to have reserve day for rain when there should be one. Also on Thursday itself commentators of previous India vs SA match said, "very heavy rain on Sunday". There is no reason to schedule a match at the time when its known rain will be in forecast. I don't see this happen with any other sport -- football too. In other sports they choose locations where rain has least chance or use indoor stadiums who have the ability to roof themselves. If its rainy season, why schedule match in such locations?
Also since ICC had knowledge on Thursday itself that there will be heavy rain today, why did they still schedule 50 over match? They could have scheduled T20 or 25 over match instead so that there is a result
D/L only applies if each side plays at least 20 overs. in today's case it will be an abandoned match. Also Amla would be deprived of his century which he earned.
Weather.com even had the exact time when rain would start. And that was 4 days back. This is pure carelessness of ICC
