Cecil Jones (Jim Bolton) is an aspiring dancer, who auditions for So You Think You Can Dance. However, despite is best efforts, the judges tell him he is not old enough to move on, and gets the boot. Returning to his normal life in Chicago, Illinois, he finds an English dancer named Richard "Rocky Blue" Duncan (Walter Thorne), who was rejected at The X Factor. The two become best friends and audition to be on a local show entitled Shake It Up Chicago, hosted by Otto J. Holliday (Andy Richter), with Gunther (Andrew Garfield) as one of their competitors.
Based on Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe's So You Think You Can Dance, the show was developed for television by Tyler Perry, and aired on the CW network, as part of their "CW Rock & Roll" Wednesday night comedy block. It was produced by Tyler Perry Studios and 19 Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television. It was canceled due to poor ratings after just 14 episodes, and was replaced along with The Game (which moved to Friday nights) by America's Next Top Model.
