13-year old Cecil Jones (Jim Bolton) auditions to be on So You Think You Can Dance, but after the performance, Nigel Lythgoe tells him that he is not 18 years old to advance, and Cecil walks off the stage upset. After returning to Chicago, Cecil meets Richard Duncan AKA Rocky Blue (Walter Thorne), who got rejected at The X Factor, not only because of his intentional dancing, but because of his lack of singing. The two rejectees see a local show named "Shake It Up Chicago", a resemblance to SYTYCD but open to all ages, and try to become professional dancers on it. The show's host, Otto J. Holliday (John Henson) accepts their performance, making Cecil and Rocky Blue the stars of the show.
