Is this story good? I had to write a book about the day the world ended?

My name is Katherine Demone and I am going to tell you about the day the world ended. It was like any other normal day in good old Boise, Idaho, my hometown. I was looking out the window trying to figure out what the weather would be like today while my little brother and sister were screaming in the kitchen about who gets the last of the Lucky Charms. “So far so good,” I thought to myself,” the weather looks great today.” That’s when the strangest thing happened; I noticed how my dog Lucy was acting a little weird. She was hiding under all the beds and running up and down the stairs frantically. At first I thought maybe she was rabid, I was about to call my mom down, but she beat me to it. “Katherine, looks like there is bad weather coming. Put Lucy in the basement.” First before I go any further let me tell you about my mom. I don’t remember much about her because this was so long ago, I had only been twelve. Anyway, my mom can get very scared very easily, if she thinks a storm might be coming it is no school for me and my siblings. Yea, it can be pretty cool sometimes, but I’m really behind on my school work because of all the days I have missed.”Katherine! Hurry up! When you’re done with Lucy, take your brother and sister down to the basement too. I have a feeling this is going to be a big one,” my mom said sounding frightened.” Yes mom. I’m coming,” I said somewhat disappointed. There was the big Winter Wonderland dance after school today and I was going to miss it all because of my mom and her stupid hunches. What I didn’t know at the time was that no one would get to go to the dance that day. No one. Wednesday 12-21-12 is the day my life would be ruined I thought. Everyone would tease me because I didn’t come and then a rumor would probably start saying that I didn’t come because my date dumped and a whole bunch of other stuff. So, I got my sister and Lucy down stairs, but my brother locked himself in a closet. He doesn’t like the basement he thinks it is too dark. Either way I knew I had to convince him to come downstairs or my mom would ground me. So I made my way down the hallway to the closet. I yell in,” Tristan if you don’t get out then I will have to get mom to come. Do you want that?””No!!!!!!!!! Please don’t make mom come, and don’t make me go in the basement, there are monsters down there!” screamed Tristan.”Come on. How do you even know if they are real or not?” I asked impatiently.”Because they always tell me when I lay in bed at night that they are going to eat me if I ever go down in the basement.” I thought maybe instead of yelling right away, I should try something else.” Well there won’t be a problem Tristan, because I already went ahead and sprayed the whole basement down with monster repellent!” I said, trying to sound a little warm and comforting. I guess it worked because the closet door slowly opened and out slipped Tristan slowly making his way to the downstairs stairs.”Alright Katherine, I’ll go,” he said,” but if I get eaten it is your fault.” I actually feel bad now, but I smiled at the thought of that happening.

Chpt.2: The Monsters in the Basement

As soon as I got Bella, Tristan, and Lucy huddled up in one of the corners of the basement, mom came running down the stairs, shutting the door behind her and locking it.”Alright everybody, let’s just calm down and take a big, deep breath. I know you are scared.” Said my mom trying to be the brave one, but ending up sounding the most scared.” Mom, don’t you think this is a little bit ridiculous? I mean, I have somewhere I have to be today.’ I said, biting my tongue after the words came out. My mother said nothing. I could tell she was angry and really scared. I wonder why this “storm” was any more important than any other “storms”.”Please Katherine. Just trust me on this, I have a bad feeling about today,” my mom finally replied. You know, now that I think about it, I sort of wish I had believed her. After about an hour in that basement, I was ready to get out. It smelled so bad and the floor was all wet. Just as I was about to get up and go upstairs, a big rumble shook the floor beneath my legs and I crumbled down onto a dirty pile of laundry, my legs feeling weak.”AHHH! See? I knew it,” my mother screamed practically into my ear,” something big is coming!””Was that an earthquake?” asked my little sister Bella in her regularly meek voice. No one answered her. Once again, a mighty roar as the earth shook. Tristan screamed. The ceiling started to fall off in chunks, and the walls began to crack. ”Children, we have to get out of the basement or else the house might collapse on us.” my mother said even more frightened than before. We all ran upstairs quickly, trying to avoid stepping on Lucy because she is only a pug. As I walked into the kitchen, I glanced outside through the window draped in yellow curtains with pink polka dots. I didn’t see my neighbor’s house or the big tree where I used to climb during the summer or
