...gun? I was reading this book about Britain's secret war against Indonesia in the early 1960's:

A lot of the war took place in very heavy jungle. In one firefight between Indonesian troops and British Troops, the British took heavy fire from 9mm Sub machine guns. The Indonesians were firing from the other side of a thick bamboo grove. Each 9mm round probably hit 30 or 40 bamboo plants before the bullets struck the British soldiers. The Indonesians were shooting low because they were unaware that the other side of the grove was slightly higher in elevation. Many British soldiers were wounded, but, they noticed that the bases of the 9mm rounds could be seen in the skin of the soldiers. Apparently, hitting all the bamboo bushes took most of the energy out of the rounds, and they were barely able to penetrate the skin. The medic was able to remove most of the bullets from the wounded soldiers with a pair of needle nose pliers. Do you think this was true or exaggeration?
