How long before you start to feel a difference once you began the PPI? Can you take an anti-anxiety med with a PPI? I told my doctor yesterday...that maybe valium would be a better bet that a PPI :) Thanks for your insight.

I tke Nexium and an anti anxiety pill. It's fine. I'd like to go off of it but it helps me sleep becuase I sufferfrom insomia. Now that my reflux is better I'd like to ween off of Nexium but I'm scared I'll get everything back again.

Ilso it took a good 4 month to heal the effects of reflux for me. Don't be in a hurry. It took a long time to get there and won't be gone over night.

Hi there

I'n new to this site and i hope someone can help. last April i had a really bad cold and was taking pseudoehadrine for it. I had bad sinus' with this and a few days after the cold subsided i was left with a post nasal drip which i put down to the sinus and took pseduoephedrine again going to bed one night to clear it. Shortly after i woke up feeling real dizzy and my heart racing. The next day i was driving and i felt my sinus clear and some post nasal drip at the back of my throat and suddenly i had what i describe as heart palpatations, spasms in my upper body and some lightheadedness. This was then folowed by a tightness in my chest and difficulty breathing. I went to my GP who said i had reaction to the pseudoephidrine that led to this sensation and because i was out driving on my own, this was followed by a panic attack- this all seemed quite reasonable even though at the time it scared me to death. But since then i have been plagued with the following conditions:
Constant burping
post nasal drip
tightness in my chest
heart palpatations
lightheadedness

I went to my GP and he sent me for a full cardiac workup and a MRi scan on my brain. All these have come back normally.

He then percribed me with proton pump inhibitators for GERD these at first worked but when i had a second occurrance i was put on a generic form of this drug that led to nurabness / deadness in my left arm and leg. I changed back to the original medication but the side effects continued so i came off them and then the side effects went away.

The rest of the symptoms are the same- sometimes i feel so bad that i can't breath and need to open a window or go outside to get air and start to shake all over. The logical side of me thinks that this aspect is a panic attack brought on by the fear of experiencing something similar to what happened back in April.

do you think the rest of the symptoms- post nasal drip, burping chest tightness, lightheadedness etc as explained by reflux?

My GP says he doesn't know whats wrong and i'm beginning to think he thinks its all in my head!!

I am a young mother as its really affecting my self confidence and my saniety as sometimes i have to ring my husband to come home from work as i feel so bad i think i'm going to pass out and don't want to be on my own with the children. I feel like i am losing my mind a little.

Hi...I am new to this board today and have experienced some of the same symptoms as you. I'm still having a hard time believing its acid reflux. But, the signs are pointing that way. I also have young children and right now feel overhwhelmed by life. My doctor says more stress creates more acid in my stomach. I keep thinking I have some life-threatening illness...which of course only stressing me out more. I don't know if I helped you...but I hope you feel better knowing there are others out there feeling the same way.

You may have silent reflux. Or you are getting all this down to stress? Do you suffer from stress badly? This can cause chest tightness. It is also a sympton for reflux though. However, stressing badly can bring this on as well.

I know how you feel as I'm going through the same at the moment. I've not done anything apart from stress the past few years to bring my silent acid reflux on. I've never had a diet of spicy fooRAB, high alcohol or caffiene intake. So the only thing that is causing my problem is stress and anxiety. That's what I'm thinking now anyway from reading on here and through google.

Try and remain positive. I know its difficult, especially with chest tightness, as when that happens - I'm sure like many people, you think its an heart attack.

Take care

Does anyone else find that the lightheadedness and tightness in chest get a lot worse when you sit down. Now that i've started to take notice of when its really bad to try rule out certain aspects of my diet i have found that sitting down makes it all a lot worse. Do others notice this?

Thanks

Unfortunately it sounRAB like we all may have acid refflux, induced by stress. This causes a lot of anxiety which causes palpitations lighheadedness and the list goes on and on. I've been through it and it got to the point of getting an anti anxiety med. This helped me get through the healing of everything that relux causes. At first it feels like you have a life threatening desease and things snowball. So If you can stay on a PPI long enough for you body to heal, that is the key. It takes a long time for this Silent reflux to heal. It took a good 5 month. My problem now is that I'm drinking coffee and eating chocolate again. That happens when you feel better. I still do get the palpitations.......which kind of go hand in hand with reflux too. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I have been experiencing symptoms exactly as described here. Burping, chest tightness, p nasal drip, difficulty breathing, etc. I too find it's worse when I'm sitting. Just wondering how everyone's doing & if anyone had a new diagnosis other than silent reflux??

Thanks for all your replies, it is somewhat comforting to know that other people are experiencing similar symptoms to me and last night when i started feeling heart palpitations as i fell asleep i reminded myself of what is probably causing this - the acid reflux and not some life threatening illness and i have to say the whole episode passed quicker and was not as scary as it has been when i really start to freak out as to whats the cause. I didn't think i was a very sressed person, I am always on the go and always doing things but never felt i was stressed out but who knows really. I have decided to make changes to my diet also, i eat quite well but could do with losing a little weight, i'm cutting out all things spicey- i don't drink coffee but drink way too much tea so am cutting that out and eliminate alcohol altogether- i'd only ever have to odd glass of wine at the weekend. I'm hoping this will help as i don't want to try the ppi's again and risk the side effects. If i don't have much success with this i'll reconsider the medication. I did get perscribed anti anxiety meRAB at the beginning of all this and found they worked but my doc didn't renew my perscription- not sure what i'll do about this, i'll see how i feel over the next week. Thanks for all your input
