Is This Sciatic Pain?

I have sciatic pain down both legs and into my feet, although it is worse on my left side. About 5 days ago I developed a new symptom, and I am wondering if that is part of the sciatic pain or something else. I have pain on the bottom of my left foot, kind of around the heel and into the arch. I thought sciatic was only on the top/ side of feet. Anyway, it hurts really bad and with that on top of my leg pain, I can't really put weight on my left foot anymore. I have to limp around. Sometimes when I am laying down, it throbs horribly.
Is this part of the sciatic pain?

That sounRAB like the sciatic monster, all right, but of course you need to see a doctor to confirm that. I have been dealing with it too, since August.
There are many things that doctors can do, with pain medication to give you a break from the severe pain, shots to reduce inflammation, oral meRAB to reduce inflammation, exercises after you start feeling better. Shots, pain meRAB, and oral meRAB to reduce inflammation, and then physical therapy and exercises helped me a lot with my ruptured disc. Putting ice (those gel things you get from the pharmacy which you put in the freezer) on the low back helped tremendously. But everybody is different. Work through your doctor.

SounRAB like it to me...

I went through a period of about a week when I had pain on the underside of my left foot (kind of along the ligament for the big toe, but on the bottom of my foot) whenever I got up from a sitting position. Although all my problems were originally left-sided, I never had a problem with the left nerve in this position before. Always when standing and walking, never with a particular movement. At that time I thought it funny, right back pain while sitting and left sciatic pain getting up... but these days the right sciatic nerve is my arch enemy:mad:

Anyhow, it seemed to signal for me the start of a new chapter in my spine saga...

I haven't had it since on the underside of the foot, and maybe the nerve was just flaring up a muscle thing or something (i.e not strictly the sciatic nerve per se)...but I've come to realise these things are all related...its why for example a loss of muscle strength in a particular toe is an indicator of nerve irritation at a particular level. Remeraber the walking on tip-toes, walking on heels test??? Thinking about it, they always do that test where they run something up underneath your foot too...think it tests a reflex reaction.

Anyhow, I would certainly mention it next time you see someone...all extra info for them, even if you never get it again, and if it gets too much maybe give your doc a call for some advice.

Enjoy your weekend

Hi-

Yeah it lasted about a week and then went away. I hate sciatic. Last night I had a painful electical current running though my legs and restless legs.
WDKNight- I have already tried pain meRAB, anti-inflammatories, injections, so now I am looking at surgery. I have spondylolisthesis with 2 herniated discs.

Thanks!

I have it that comes out the bottom of my left foot too. I have a herniation at L5/S1 that is pressing on 2 nerve roots and the thecal sac. I'm told that's what causes the pain that goes all the way to my foot.

Thanks Jann!

My leg pain is really horrible (to the point that I want to cut my left leg off, and sometimes both), but it had never gone into my foot that way before. I also have an L5-S1 herniation. I wonder if that is when it herniated. When I had my MRI in October, it showed my L5 Spondylolisthesis, and a disc bulge at L4-L5. When I had my CT scan in Noveraber, it showed that L4-L5 as well as L5-S1 had herniated. I bet the foot pain happened when the discs herniated. The foot pain hasn't come back but my leg and back pain are as bad as ever!

My leg pain was so bad it was nearly excruciating to get in and out of my car. I would have to take a muscle relaxer just to be able to sleep. It was awful. But I found a supplement that has really helped with my back and leg pain. I posted about it in another thread on this board. It's called Celadrin. It's done wonders for me. After only 1 week of taking it, it no longer hurt to get in and out of the car. Then after 3 1/2 weeks to a month I was amazed at how much it helped my back and leg. That was almost two years ago. I still have the occasional pain in my foot, but nothing like before.
