I am taking care of someone at his home. The daughter is the person responsible for him. I work third shifts there 6 days week, 12 hours day.
Here is the routine. She wants us to put him in bed by 9 pm. He is suppose to take a medication that will help him to sleep, but she wont allow us to give it to him. She want us to put him in bed and wait about 30 min.
If we take him out bed, we need to bring him to the bathroom, and sit him on toilet. After give him an sleeping pill.
And wait 30 more min. And if the is not sleeping we have to repositioned him and wait for more 20 min. If he wont fall asleep we need to do it over again. Bring him to the bathroom, sit him on toilet and give him a pill. If he is wet ( the brief) we need to change it.
Now comes the worst part, we need to take him out the bed every 3 hours, even he is deep sleeping put him on toilet and check if he isn't wet. If in case he is we must change him and put him back to bed now in a different side ( cause he can't move in bed by himself).
If his shirt is wet cause the sweat we must do that over again... take him out the bed, bring to the bathroom, sit on toilet, change his shirt and if the brief is wet, also change the brief.
And we have to do it until 11 or 12 pm when he is suppose to take his breakfast.
He is 91 years old and can't barely speak anymore. He has severe Parkinson so he is very confused.
I have to be honest, I feel horrible... one because we need to take this poor sweet man out the bed even if he is sleeping. We need to medicate him until he pass out, if he is moving in bed even with the eyes close, his daughter wants to make sure he is not moving in bed. Also she wont allow the AC on, so is very normal summer time it get hot like 80 to 82 F inside the room ( and that's why he sweats ) but she wants me to check on him every 30 min, so if his back is wet I have to take him out the bed, as many time is necessary.
I know when I leave the next person doesn't take good care of him, cause she normally bruise him by the way she grabs him and also I noticed he is dehydrated. But I can't offer water to him if he is sleeping like a rock ( it can be dangerous for him). When he is sleeping and I have to bring him to the bathroom, he is dead weight, thanks God I am strong enough to hold him with one hand when I am using the other to put his pants up.
I have been telling the daughter that I believe this is wrong what she wants me to do to him. I dont mind reposition him every 2 hours in bed, cause thats how we learned in nursing school. But take him out the bed every 3 hours is insane. Take him out the bed if his back is wet is insane when she wont allow us to have the AC on. so the room is freaking hot.
After I leave the next person has been lying allot about what she does to him, and because she kiss the ass of the daughter, she wont care how this person has been treating her father.
I really want to quit, but I don't want to leave this poor man having a life like that. I really don't know what to do.
By the way, she can eat pureed food, but the daughter came up with this shake she ask us to make for him... and everyday is the same thing 3 times a day. And if the poor man wont move his BM, she tell us to give him Miralax. But how, if he only drinks a shake 3 times a day.
Its crazy and she wants him to be in bed from 9 pm until 11 am
I was thinking about calling the elderly abuse hotline but I dont know if is enough evidence of elderly abuse. But the man has no quality life as you can see. Seems like she just wants to keep him alive.
Its a very wealthy family, and the man that I take care was very wealthy as well. So you kind have an idea what is going on here.
