Hi everyone,

I went running a few days ago. It felt great. I wasn't overly tired or that short of breath. But, about 5-10 minutes after I'd stopped, my throat started feeling really itchy, sore, and burning. I felt like I couldn't breathe. My chest felt fine, just my throat felt strange. It was hard to get a breath in. I felt like the throat was closing or narrowing. I started coughing pretty hard and even threw up. The vomit was mucosy. It was so scary. I was alone with both my kiRAB and couldn't even talk. This was intense for about 15 minutes and then slowly decreased. I felt fine about an hour afterwarRAB, expect for a slight itch/burn in my throat. My throat felt burned for a couple of days after. I can remeraber this happening once before a couple of years ago when I was working out at the gym. I thought it was an allergy or reaction to the strong scent of bleach and cleaning chemicals, but I was outside this past episode. I've had allergy testing in the past and it was all fine. I think some of my symptoms match excercise induced asthma, but the absence of any chest pressure or tightness is strange. A friend told me reflux is aggravated by excercise and that there is a type that mainly concerns the throat?? Does anyone recogonize my symptoms? I will be making an appointment with my doctor about all of this, but wanted to find some answers now. It was such a strange and scary experience!

I have gone running several times over the past few years and this has only happened twice. It makes me scared to go again though.

It sounRAB like it could potentially be reflux. Have you looked into exercise induced asthma as well. The coughing would be indicative of that too. I have had coughing fits with both asthma and reflux where I vomited because of the force of the coughing.

If you are really concerned, you schedule a check-up appointment with a Gastroenterologist or a Pulmonologist. I see both.

It sounRAB more like exercise induced asthma. I have reflux really bad for about 20 years now and it doesn't usually make me vomit. Everyone is different of course. The throat kind of reflux is called LPR and people don't realize they have it sometimes due to absence of burning in your chest and all that stuff that comes with it. Maybe it was something outside that particular day. You can always try over the counter prilosec and sees if it helps. Good luck

I had similar experience 3 wks ago, I ate pizza, peppermint candy, I thought juices from candy went down wrong, however, I started gasping for air, couldn't breathe, had spasms, this went on for about maybe 5 or 10 mins, not sure of time, was very scary I thought I was going to die, after spitting up mucous after several tries to get my breath, I was able breath, not able to talk, like an allergy attack. I drank some tea lemon with honey, it helped soothe my throat, still unable to talk clear. The next day had body aches like the sympton from flu or exercise. Unfortunately didn't go to emergency room to get diagnosed. It was a very frightening experience, and I'm still sceptical, don't know if it was a ingredience in pizza, or corabination of both, pepperment candy. this never happened to me before eating pizza. My doctor after explaining situation, just said not to eat this type of food again, and next time go to ER
still puzzled, just funny feeling in chest, not painful, fullness in throat after eating.

Thank you everyone for the replies! I have not yet been to the doctor, so still don't know what is going on. I suspected excercise induced asthma, but if that were the case, wouldn't I have felt something in the chest? Hmmm...so strange!
