I'm not one for confrontations and I'm generally pretty tolerant, but when someone's getting obnoxious I tend to make an indirect reference to it and suggest that it's bad and he'd better stop it. I don't think I'm purposely trying to make him uncomfortable or even threatened, I just want to make him aware that he's obnoxious without embarrassing him.
Would this be passive-aggressive anyway? Would the "healthy" way to deal with this person in this kind of situation be to tell him to shut up and get over himself?
