Is this normal or has google android really just gone too far?

I used to have an android phone but i was getting sick of it. So i switched to a different phone. Turns out, i looked in my sd card gallery and there's like a few hundred screenshots in my memory card of stuff i've used on my droid when i had it. The weird thing is, if i recall correctly, android never had a snapshot feature like the ipod touch does, at least not 2.1, so wtf is this? Oh and on top of that, when i had the droid, non of these pictures even showed up in the sd card gallery.
 
Basically what most Android phones do, is to collect/scan the entire phone and SD card, for "image files", for display in the gallery, unless you turn the feature of fin some manner.

There are apps in the market that you can download that can block/lock scanning of certain folders if you don't want them to be displayed in the gallery.
