Is this normal for a cellphone?

My cellphone needs to be recharged every night just from being kept on. If I call or text people during the day, the battery will die out on me sooner than usual. It gets kinda annoying because it means I have to turn of my cellphone for most of the day in order to make sure I have enough battery left to make a call or something in the afternoon or evening.

Is it time for a new phone? Can I get a new battery? How frequently do you recharge your cellphone?
