Is this legal in basketball to throw the ball up in the air and it bounces...?

then you grab the ball back?
For example, you're in a position where you can't dribble so you toss the ball over the player's head and it bounces on the ground and you go around quickly to obtain the ball back. Is that illegal or legal?
 
its legal if u havent dribbled before u tossed it... for example on a fastbreak when u just catch it and toss it up.. then u can get it and its legal...

if u picked up ur dribble then u toss it and catch it, thats illegal... double dribble
