is this IDEAL lifestyle possible??!?

i love travelling, and, a few years down the line, with my girlfriend, we either: 1. save up enough money to do a road trip around the us...........OR we save up enough money to fly to the place of our choice, and we find a job and work their for a few weeks/months, and once we've saved up enough money, we travel somewhere else

Yes actually. You just have to think of what you want. I have a friend who does that. He has taken a job teaching English in Czech, Japan, and a couple other jobs in Russia and Sweden. Basically he just signs on for one year contracts at these places and saves up enough for the train ticket out of there when it's done. He loves it.

You have to be aware what a lifestyle like that means. He will probably never own a house or furniture. Everything he buys must be small enough to fit in a suitcase. Sometimes he will ship something back to his parents so that if he comes back to the US he will have some cool things--like crystal vases or amber.

If you want to stay in the US there are tons of options there as well. Many jobs involve a lot of travel. I have a friend who is a consultant and he flies out nearly every Monday. I myself fly out at least 3 weeks out of every month. I work for the Air Force. Sometimes we go to awesome places--sometimes crappy places. August I went to Boise (ugh) and Tampa (yay).

Think of seasonal employment. Cooljobs has listings for national parks. I was in Alaska in July and the people there all live someplace else. They go up there for the summer at the park. Then they will go on vacation for a while after the park closes in October. One girl goes to South America b/c her money goes so much farther there that she can vacation for several months. Another girl said she goes out traveling for a month or so and works at a Colorado/Utah ski resort come winter.

I've been to most of the states in the US. I think I'm up to about 44 or so. In my opinion, living there for a few months is definitely the way to see the area. Take in some of the free festivals. Enjoy the restaurants that only the locals know about. In Prague it was a big difference. When I went for a week I thought beer was so cheap b/c it was about $1.50-$2. My friend that lived there told me I didn't go off the tourist loop b/c most beer was less than $1.

Also consider getting your CDL. Truckers travel all over the US and it also helps in national parks b/c you can drive the buses into the park.

The lifestyle you want is most definitely possible. There are a lot of jobs out there just like that. Good luck!

I would save up the money until you have enough to pick a nice place and go there. Make it a pleasure...not a work load.
