We moved out of a rented home, only after living there for three months. We have already paid for the entire month. The landlord told us to have the home "move-in ready." They scheduled a carpet cleaning guy the SAME day we were moving out. We had to hustle and bustle to get things out of the way. The landlord told us it would be anywhere from $250-300 for the carpets. They then wanted us to have the keys turned in the following day by the end of the work day. Needless to say, we spent two days moving/cleaning/etc. We still have half of the month left. They told us they probably have it re-rented and would let us know if people have taken over or not. If they have, then we would receive our prorated rent.
My question is: Can they charge for mowing the lawn, removing trash that was sitting out for pickup, recaulking a tub and washing the windows? We could have done that ourselves, but we had no sort of checklist or anything and obviously had no time and no keys.
