The electric wiring in my apartment has been surging lately. I got a new blow dryer for christmas. I had to throw it away because the cord plug was burnt near the prongs. The cord would feel really hot when I touched it also.. I also felt the wall of the electric outlet and it felt warm also. I've been noticing that while on my laptop that the internet connection will go out totally. I actually have to reboot the wireless modem to reconnect to the internet.
I called my cable company and the technician noticed that when he was checking the connection that there was hardly any signal to the modems. At that time I noticed my lights flickering the same time exactly that the internet went out.
I'm concerned that the small surges might damage my computers and electronics. I have all of my appliances from my small kitchen appliances (blender, toaster, microwave, etc.) on a surge protector. My TVs, desktop computer, and wireless modems are on a very good surge protector. The technician said that these surges could damage the surge protector. After plugging in a brand new small kitchen appliance a week ago, I'm now really concerned about the wiring in this unit. I plugged it in very a mere second and it caused the smoke alarm to sound until I unplugged the appliance.
The technician said he knew that there was a small electrical fire about 10 years ago in this building. He also mentioned that the unit has never been rented again. Who should be responsible to replace my damaged appliance? Will my renter's insurance cover the loss of the appliances?
I'm planning on leaving here as soon as I can legally leave here! Thanks
