Is this an extenuating circumstance?

My scholarship was recently denied for next semester, this is because my GPA was like 1.9 instead of the required 3.0, they said if it was due to extenuating circumstances i could petition to get it back.

My sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and my family was a mess for weeks, I missed several days of school, to go see my mom, because she didn't really have anyone to lean on because my dad died hardly even a year before she was diagnosed.

I have always been a good student, I received mostly A's in high school with several B's and a maybe like 2 C's total. I left high school with a 3.48 GPA

I was just wondering in the above would count as an extenuating circumstance, or if it would be a waste of time to petition it.

What do you think, if I wrote a letter worded correctly, do you think they'd give it back?
I really need that money to continue going to school
she had surgery to have it removed, and then it turned out to be a really weird marking on her brain kind of like a scar of some sort, anyway they are still not sure what it is, but it isn't cancerous they believe anyway. They sent it to john hopkins research and have labeled it as a medical mystery for the time being
