Ok so I am a receptionist at a spa and just recently one of the receptionist got promoted to an assistant manager. Well the employees have always had a problem with her because of her excessive micro managing but she still got promoted.(she is also close friends with the owner of the spa.) now this spa is a franchise and has to go through corparate for lots of things. I have complained many times about her over baring ways and so has about every other employee there. well the other day one of the employees caught her in the office writing a list. and on this list it had everything that everyone did wrong. so this employee went on the computer later on that evening and printed out pages and pages of very excessive tabs on all employees that worked there. It also had something in there of what I did on MY day OFF!!! it said I went out to dinner with a few of the other employees. the exact frase was:
10/23/08 "Interesting Tidbit: Name1, Name2,Name3 all went to friday's together........Just interesting......."
I am very concerned I do not know what to do about this can someone please help me!!???

It is perfectly legal for her to keep a log like you describe. It is also perfectly legal for her to micromanage.

Despite that, it is apparent she has a serious problem in management, and if her superiors don't want to act, I suggest you find a different job. It would be your best bet, in my view, since nothing can be done with this manager apparently.

I don't see anything that would be against the law. But it does seem that this new assistant manager isn't smart enough to password protect documents. But stupidity isn't illegal either.

Tread very carefully here because in cases where it's management vs. hourly employees, the company usually sides with management. However, there are exceptions, particularly when there are many employees complaining about a manager. In this case, though, you said she was friends with the owner. So it sounds like a hostile work environment. Also, she is keeping track of things, she won't be one to go down without a fight, which means someone else will go if there's trouble!
