Is this a good way to talk to a girl i like?

Ok so i'm a sophmore in a high school, and i want to talk to this cute girl. She's a freshman and i see her occasionally in the library after school. Sometimes she is alone and sometimes she is with her friends. I don't really know much about her, just that she is a cheerleader. Since i play football i want to go up to her and say something like "hey you look really familiar, do i know you from somewhere." Then i could say something like "are you a cheerleader", and start the conversation from there. I just want to know if you think this a good way to talk to her, and if not what other ways could i try to start a conversation with her? Thanks
