One day, a young girl named Anita was about to turn nine. That day, she and her friends decided to go for a walk. While they were walking, they came across a cute puppy. They raced to find Anita's mom to tell her the news. "It looks like a Springer Spaniel!" "Can we keep it Mom? Please?" Anita pleaded. Her mom wasn't sure what to do. She finally came to the decision to keep the dog overnight and look for his owner in the morning. Anita and her mom also decided to name the dog Buddy. The dog was a lot of work; it even woke Anita's mom up at midnight! FInally, it was morning, and they went to look for his owr. As they walked down the sidewalk, they found a frantic looking owner. "Thank you so much for finding our dog!" She said. Anita was shocked. This dog had an owner? She ran home crying. She didn't want to give the dog up. After Anita's mom got home, she sat next to her and gave her a tissue. "We can get you a dog in two years for your 11th birthday." Said her mother. Anita was overjoyed! Finally, she could get a dog just like Buddy! The phone rang. Anita's mom answered, and found out it was from Buddy' owner. They told her the dog was having puppies! The owner promised to give Anita a puppy for her birthday. "You know what mom?" Laughed Anita. "This really is the best birthday ever!"
