Is this a good argument for a Cellphone?

My birthday is very soon. :) I'm asking for a Blackberry. Life isn't all that great for me OR my mom right now, big move, etc. which is why it's going to make it hard to get a cellphone for my birthday. But, do you think this a good argument?

I think I should get a cellphone because:
For example, If I go out to the movies and spend all of my money on the tickets, popcorn, etc. and I tell her to pick me up at say 8:00pm, and we are able to get into a earlier movie which ends at 6:00, a cellphone would make it ALOT easier to get a ride back. A phone would show that I'm responsible, and she's already thought about buying me one. She pays for my bus pass for school each month ($45) but since it's getting warmer, me and my friends decided we are going to walk. I get $25 a week for lunch, I could ask for just $5 and save the rest for the phone bill.. Which is about $57. My sister had a phone by the end of grade 8. I also plan to do MUCH more texting than calling.

That's it. Anything I should add, take out? I don't want to NOT get a phone! Thanks, everyone.
I never said I couldn't afford it. With the move thing, she's just got alot else to pay for, and everything is very stressful and depressing.
Yeah, I know about the data plans..
I've tried to do the calculations as best as possible, but either way, if you take 45 dollars a month (Bus pass) add 100 dollars for 4 weeks of lunch money, (I plan to bring lunch, or just text instead of eat, lol!) It's wayy more than enough. Even the lunch money is enough.

I think if your family is not able to afford a cell phone at this time you should respect it. But, if you are willing to save money else where or do side jobs to pay for it every month that is another thing.
Yes cell phones make life easier most of the time, but just because other people you know have phones does not mean that you have to follow them and have one too. Plus, if they all have phones and you are with them you can just use their phone.
Also, you are asking for an expensive phone it might do you better to ask for something cheaper.
Good Luck!

It's very mature of you to understand that you need to make compromises with your mother. I'm not sure how you will pay for lunch with just 5$ a week, though.

Anyway, the best argument for a cell phone is the safety issue. If you're in the middle of nowhere, and there is an emergency, a cell phone may mean the difference between life and death.

Consider looking into pay as you go plans. If you don't plan on calling that much, you can just buy a 60 minute phone card and live off that for a month. I couldn't tell you if such a plan is available for Blackberries.

Well one thing that you need to realize is that you not only have to pay for the regular monthly plan, you have to pay an extra $25-$35 for a blackberry data plan.

You should choose a different phone and then bring up the argument.
(not a smart phone because they all require a data plans)
