Is this a common business practice?

Using a well-known, nation-wide company, I logged onto their website yesterday to see if I could schedule a home repair service for my clothes washer online. Luckily I could schedule it online. In doing so, I had to put my appointment into the "cart" like you would if purchasing books or something and "check out" with my credit card. It specifically said my credit card would not be charged until service was done (and I believe it also said to my satisfaction). To my surprise this has already been charged to my credit card today and it's two days before they even come to my home.

Now for one, I would have thought it would be like ordering merchandise and my credit card wouldn't be charged until the items were actually shipped.

Shouldn't this be the same in this case? Besides the fact the website said I wouldn't be charged until the service was performed, is this a common business practice I should be weary of in the future?
