No. As long as you can control your camera gear and have established a unique style, you can be whatever you want to be. Photographers use the same cameras and same skills no matter if they shoot fashion, extreme sports, fetish, scientific or are photo-artists.
And it isn't the camera that makes the image .. it is the mind of the photographer.
