I was watching the special "The Devil's Playground", and it was stated that Amish children 'drop out' of school during the 8th grade. I was wondering if any children spent their time of exploration, starting at the age of 16, going to school and learning more. I saw a lot of kids going out and 'partying it up' and I was just wondering if any were more passionate about knowledge. I heard that some Amish children would be excommunicated if they decided to continue schooling after the 8th grade. My ultimate question is: If an Amish child/person seeks education after leaving the Amish community, is there something out there to help them catch up with their Non-Amish peers?
I apologize for the excessive questions; this is just something that I couldn't find any solid information about.
