Is there is significant pain on the left hand side of the chest during heartburn?

Hi:

I used to feel chest pain earlier but would not last much longer. Since last week, I am continuously suffering from chest pain. My friends say that it is a matter of heart burn.

I was bit worried and finally decided to see a doctor. I explained to him that my left chest pains much more than the other part. I do sometime have pain near the abdomen and on the right side of the chest. But, the pain on the left side of the chest is much more severe. I am also feeling slight pain on the left arm.

Doctor checked my blood pressure and it turned out to be perfect. He also wanted to do EKG and the result also looked fine.

Can somebody assure me that I do not need to worry about heart attack as my blood pressure and EKG are perfectly fine. Doctor later told me that I must be having heartburn and referred PEPCID to me.

I was and I am still very much worried about cardial attack as I suffer pain in the left side of my chest. Can heartburn cause more pain in the left side of the chest than the right side? Since, my blood pressure and EKG both are fine, do i still need to worry about cardial attack?

I would really appreciate if somebody could please answer my questions.

Thanks in advance.

If it were me I'd be worried it was my heart, but I see you've had that all checked out. You could check with the doctor if there are any more tests that could be done. I've had heartburn, and never noticed it was one side more than the other. Do you think it could be pyschosomatic? Do you have a healthy lifestyle, what is your age? Have you lost someone close to heart disease? Sometimes worry can produce very physical symptoms. Has the doctor said what the pain near the abdomen could be? Sometimes pain in one area can actually be the product of a problem somewhere else in the body.

Binay,

Even thought your doctor checked your blood pressure and did an ekg, that does not necessarily indicate that all is well. It does indicate by the length of your symptoms that you are probably not in immediate danger. That being said, I would suggest that you call your doctors office and request a referral to a cardiologist. I think if you sit down with a cardiologist and speak to them about your symptoms and request a profusion stress test and cardiac echo exam. These two test will take a look at the structure of your heart and also the blood flow going through your heart after stressing it. You might also see if they could do a chest CT with and without contrast to make sure that nothing is wrong with your lungs.

There was a time I would of said you had nothing to worry about until recently my husbands EKG's were fine and his blood pressure was only slightly elevated...yet he had some of your same symptoms. To be sure you might want to have a cardiac stress test. Of course if the normal things show nothing wrong your insurance might not pay for a more expensive cardiac stress test. good luck.
