Is there anything i can do to fix my mic issue on skype?

okay so here's the thing...im using ubuntu on my netbook which has a camera and a microphone and i downloaded skype...but when im in a skype call i can hear the other people but they cant hear me....i dont know whats going on but i can use my mic on everything else but skype...this is really frustrating...plz help
