I'm only 18 so I haven't had a bank account very long, don't know everything about how a bank works. But when I was having my account opened, the lady was being rude and assumed that my credit score was zero... I didn't have a credit score at the time. So she said that she was putting me on a "New Horizons" account and I would be paying a $10 monthly fee. I explained that to her and she brought some guy in to do it for her. He said that he was just going to put me on a regular bank account and there would be no monthly fee at all.
Turns out they lied to me, they have been charging me a $10 monthly fee without my knowledge for the past year. I recently got a letter saying my account is overdrawn by $13... I had about $10 in my account and I did not do anything with it. I tried calling the phone number at the bottom of the letter but it's always busy no matter what time or how frequently you call it. I got the bank's number because I would just like to close the account, but they won't do that until I bring the balance to zero. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but they blatantly lied to me and took about $100 from me without my knowledge. Is there anything I can do?
Edco- I only received one bank statement the first month I had my account. The $10 fee I assumed was for opening the account.
