For the last few weeks i have been wiped out. All i really want to do is crawl into a dark hole and hide. I am always tired, like barely able to function tired but have difficulty sleeping, my sinuses always feel pressurized and clogged, my ears feel the same, like they always need popped. I constantly feel feverish but do not have a feel of any sort.

I have been on everything from fexofenadine to xyxal (i HATE xyxal, made me feel ten times more tired than the allergies do) to astepro to claratin to a couple other nasal sprays, none of which seem to make even the slightest difference.

i tried the shots for a year, but noticed no change so the doc told me i could go ahead and stop. plus it is difficult with my job to go once a week to get a shot

i do use a netti pot a couple times a day which seems to relieve the pressure a bit for a short time.

i am going back to my doc tomorrow, does anyone have ANY sort of suggestion for me? maybe something to communicate to my doc that i am missing??

thank you in advance, until a year ago i had no idea that allergies had this type of an affect on people... reading all your stories, it is amazing to hear all the same things i have been feeling for years now that i could never explain

Okay, if dust is 5, then allergy proofing the bed will probably be a big help. Also, try to keep the bedroom as clean and clutter-free as possible. Dust with a damp cloth or static duster, and it's best if someone without allergies does the cleaning and you are elsewhere for an hour afterward.

Keep the pets out of the bedroom, and have them groomed regularly.

I have to use a corabination of things to get any relief. I use fexofenadine (Allegra) in the morning along with Nasonex. Then at night I use Singulair. I would also suggest getting an air cleaner to put near your bed - it doesn't have to be one of those $300 deals either - just something to pull the dust from the air. Also, I don't know if you were tested for dust mite allergy but that is supposedly one thing that most people with allergies have a lot of trouble with. They are microscopic little critters that live in mattresses, pillows and carpets and eat our dead skin cells. If you get an allergen blocking mattress and pillow covering, that will help with dust mites. As far as the fatigue goes, there is really nothing that is going to make you feel 100% until the allergies are at least under control. Try getting allergy meRAB that don't make you drowsy like Allegra or Claritin or take the meRAB at night. Sudafed and Mucinex will help with clearing the stuffiness. I know exactly what you're going through. I live through it at least twice a year (Spring and Fall) and it is miserable. Hang in there and keep working with your doc to find something that will work for you and remeraber this is not a quick fix.

Okay, step one is usually to figure out what you are allergic to. Do you know? Have you taken steps to reduce your exposure?

Step two is try treatments. Antihistamines, nasal sprays etc may take a couple weeks to start working, especially if you're already having severe symptoms when you start to treat. So, unless you get intolerable side effects, try it for a good long time before you give up.

Have you ever tried corabining an antihistamine with the stomach medicine Zantac? They block different forms of histamine.

Sorry.. that was durab.. I scored a 5 for things like grass, weeRAB,and trees. and mild allergies to dog and cat

Well, for the last several weeks, the weed pollen levels have been quite high, and there's still some grass pollen. So that's most likely the cause of your symptoms.

Best plan is to stay inside as much as possible, keep windows closed on your house or car, and shower after you've been outside for a while or before bed. It's probably too cold for air conditioning, but have you tried a HEPA air filter in your bedroom? (Do NOT use an ozone filter.)

Also, keep pollen covered clothes out of the bedroom, and change your sheets/pillowcases frequently. Wash them in hot water.

The season should start winding down soon, and sometime next month a hard frost should kill off all the pollen.

Also, are you taking Sudafed (decongestant)?

Just an update.

Went to a new doc last night. She has the same allergy problems i have.

she put me on singulair (never tried it) with nasonex and patanol (sp?). I started the meRAB yesterday afternoon and already feel a little better.

I put a allergy proof mattress case and pillow cases on the bed yesterday as well. Plus we are keeping our bedroom door shut now from the animals with an air purifier running at all times.

I actually got a decent nights sleep. maybe it is mental, but i dont really care. I feel pretty good today.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

I have not tried sudafed yet, will get some today.

I wish it was that easy to stay inside, the company i work for has all the loading dock doors and everything else open possible this time of year. It just isnt possible to avoid the problem...

I bought an allergy proof mattress cover and pillow case yesterday, so i will put that on right away as well.

I just found the paperwork, mold and dust were also 5's. My house is brand new, so i doubt mold is the issue.

My wife is also an animal lover.. But since i scored only 2 and 3 for those allergies, i dont think i should get into a fight with her to remove the pets. We have one great dane and 4 cats.
