Is there any way to divide a News Feed in Facebook into 2?

I have my family and friends in my news feed in facebook..
what i'm asking is that if there's any way or any application that divides a news feed into 2 i.e one for my friends and for my family?

I already tried putting my friends into a list but it doesn't provide instantaneous updates on their status and such..

is there a way?
