Wow, what ignorance here..

I'm an American living in Israel and yes, there are programs for charity work. Google it.

As for the previous posters remarks.. the guy's way off. You will not get hassled let alone shot by any IDF soldier. The IDF values human life and Israel is a democratic country. I can't say the same for "Palestine", but that's your call -- you are going to be putting yourself in harms way by going there and kidnapping in Gaza is not unheard of. Your call.

One thing to keep in mind.. if the conflict escalates into war like in operation "Cast Lead", then do yourself a favor and go to the Israeli side. Israel does not aim for innocent civilians and/or humanitarian aid workers, but if a Palestinian hospital is hijacked by militants and turned into a launching pad for rockets and mortars -- the hospital will inevitably be struck.

And one final note.. I personally (and this is from over 10 years of living in this country) wouldn't bother with the Palestinian people at this point. There's too much corruption there. You go there with good intentions and the people who will get in your way are the exact people you set out to help in the first place. Palestinian elections are on the horizon and I guarantee that there will be some sort of domestic strife in Palestine -- and that's the last thing you want to throw yourself into.

Charity in Africa makes more sense these days. They're on the right track in many African countries and they really do need your help. Palestinians are casualties of politics, corruption and Islamic extremism. Theoretically they don't need your help as much as starving, war-torn Africans and if they got their act together and walked the path of peace, Palestine could one day be a thriving country.

Africa will have more of an impact on the world in the long run, and they truly do need all the help they can get.

Just my $0.02. Good luck to you either way.
