Is there any software alternative to using Google Video chat in Gmail?

I cannot install Skype or Windows Live Messenger on my computer due to a hardware problem (I think). I have been using Google Video Chat through the Gmail website in my web browser. I really like the call quality, but it annoys me that I have to keep my web browser open in order to stay online. Is there any software for Google Video Chat - or even third party software?

I realise Google Talk does not support Video Calling.

I use Firefox - not chrome. So Google Chrome's "Application Shortcut" feature is not an option for me.
