Is there any game sort of similar to Civilization that isn't MMOG?

I know of one sort of similar but you go against computers and there are no turns. I can't at all remember what it's called though. I know you grow an army and send out hunters, explorers, and builders, and I also know that there are random animals about. Does anyone know what this may be called?
