Is there any country that has a successful government managed health care system?

If VA hospitals are an indicator of what is to come on a large scale we will soon be going down to Mexico for some quality health care.

The UK is successful-ish. It's free, available to every citizen and although the wait can get long, they do prioritise cases so more serious ones get seen first.

The best countries I have visited for health care are Germany and France in that order. The United States is very good providing you are well insured or very wealthy. Health care here in Thailand is also excellent if you can pay but not so good if you can't. I am sure Australia and New Zealand are first rate but have no experience of their health care systems.

Define successful?

Success is subjective to the priorities of the person making the judgment. What's the top priority? Accessibility, affordability, quality available, advancements?

The question can be just as easily turned around;
Is there any country that has a successful market-based health care system?
If patient dumping and over-medication is any indicator, we might all be going to Canada for some quality health care.
