The PRC is very content to keep "the house divided" on Taiwan. A standard tactic is to divide one's enemy into warring factions.
Should the KMT and the DPP therefore agree to join forces in submitting a referendum to the Taiwanese people as a plebiscite to encourage a drive for formally declared independence?
Leave the USA out of this. Let the people of Taiwan decide! And, they will surely tell the PRC to "jieu kai!"
There is no valid reason for the PRC's claim to owning Taiwan and its people, nor any reason why they couldn't proceed in dealing with Taiwan as an INTERNATIONAL ally, instead of as a "Province of the PRC" which they have NEVER conquered.
