...with lead and mold testing? Is there any free or discounted service that does lead and mold testing for low income families. I am in the baby proofing stage and something I hadn't given much thought to until now is the lead paint and mold spore issues. I live in an older house (pre 1978) and I'm quite sure there must be areas with lead paint and probably some molds in the damp root cellar attached to the basement or perhaps even in the bathroom, which has a somewhat rotted window ledge on the window in the shower (I know, I'm working on getting that fixed). I can not afford the typical fees of $350 - $450 (for each test!) to have the house tested but I feel like it's something I should get done. I live in CT, btw. Does anyone know if there is maybe a government assistance program that helps single moms with very low income in with lead and mold testing? Thanks so much!
I don't rent. I am actually the caretaker for my cousin's home. My great aunt and uncle owned this house and when they passed away their son, my cousin, wanted someone reliable and safe to move into the house and become the caretaker. He lives in NY and I doesn't drive so he couldn't come check on the house from time to time. It works out great for both of us.
