Is there any adjustment to a Rack and Pinion on a 2000 ford ranger?

There is sort of a clunking noise coming from my rack and pinion. If you move the steering wheel back and forth without moving the wheels you can hear a clunking noise. So i got under the truck and i could feel the clunking on the left side of rack but not as well on the right. Almost sounds like there is a lot of play between the pinion gear and the rack. I was wondering if this is adjustable or do i have to replace the whole thing?

there are no adjustments on racks. if you have a clunking noise make sure the rack is tight and check out the front end like tie rods and ball joints. if it turns out to be the rack then you need to replace it. if i were you i would get a good 1 from the junk yard because those are pretty high new.

You cannot adjust anyting on a rack and pinion. It sounds like the inner tie rod ends are worn out. Replace them and that shoud fix the problem
