Is there a way to use Aim/MSN/And or Yahoo while playing a game like X-Fire lets you do?

Well pretty much when I'm playing it takes up the whole screen and I don't like playing in windowed mode just because the mouse goes off the screen a lot. So is there any mod or something that allows me to talk to people on Aol Instant Messenger, MSN , and or yahoo messenger while I'm in the game like X-fire does. I know some of you may say just use X-Fire but most people I know dont even know what the hell X-Fire is. lol

(X-fire opens up a mini window for the person who messages me without minimizing my game or anything)
