Is there a way to transfer recordings from my directtv dvr to a flash drive? ?

There is a USB port on the front of my directtv dvr. Is there a way to transfer recordings from my dvr to a flash drive? I want to burn some shows I have on there to dvds to get them off my disc space. If not, is there a dvr receiver that WILL burn shows to a dvd? If so, how much do they cost?
