Is there a way to transfer or copy the $19.99 ipod touch update to another

ipod from the same PC? Because i'm thinking about purchasing it and someone else in my family has the ipod touch, so i was wanting to know if i could plug their ipod to my PC and use the update i purchased.....? instead of buying it again, when i heard isn't all that great to have
