is there a way to test if a hub is bad 0n a 2004 dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 without

removing it from the truck? my drivers side hub makes a loud popping noise when in 4wheel i think the hub is bad but the 4wheel drive still works can you put a multimeter or do another test on it to make sure thats the problem before you remove it
 
It's probably a bad universal joint. The hub has to be removed to replace it, not easily done unless you know the secret. More than likely you need ball joints too. If you don't have really good mechanical skills you might want to go to a pro.
