Is there a way to look up past chat messages, when the chat box has been closed?

I closed a chat with my friend, and i would like to review what we said because it had some important information, it is really important. Please, can i get it back? Thank you
 
You do not say where you were chatting
Yahoo Messenger ? click Contacts click Message Archives. (only available if you previously made the settings to save messages )

Yahoo Mail - At the end of the convo you can elect to save the chat as an email and send it to yourself to file as you wish.
