Is there a way to force the first letter of text messages to lowercase?

I've got a Nokia E70-2 and as I'm sure is standard fare amongst many other phones, the first letter of each sentence automatically capitalizes itself when I'm composing a text message, adding a calendar/to-do entry, writing a note, or adding a contact. Is there a way to disable this feature?

I realize you can hit the shift key on the E70's keyboard to drop the first letter to lowercase, but to me that's really counter-intuitive -- it seems silly to push shift everytime you start a sentence just to force the case back to what it (seemingly should) default to. I understand that the manufacturer's heart was in the right place with this feature, but it looks silly when typing on text message or IM to have a lot of one-line messages that read "Lol", "Omg", or "Rofl". When I want specific letters to be capitalized, I will specify that with the shift key -- it shouldn't be the other way around.

Thanks so much for the help.

They're encouraging you to type the King's English. And more power to them. You whipper-snappers today with your ROFLMAO BS. Makes us old farts wanna puke!

Seriously though - I see where your coming from, but I prefer their default behavior....

Yeah well, I type with an absurd level of coherence on discussion board posts and everywhere but IM's, texts, and notes to myself.

my Sharp 703SH had the japanese firmware on it, but I could select "English" for my phone. There was no automatic capital first letter. However, when I flashed it for a Euro firmware, the automatic capital letter came up.

So I'd say try to flash your phone to the asian firmware but stick to the english language on it.

That would be the only way IMO.

Not true, after all smileys, Lol, jk, brb are all in the T9 dictionary. But yeah, it is rather odd to make such an issue of having a capital letter after a period.

omg lol rotfl and alike should be banned.... So I'm with the capitalisation.... Is anyone really rolling on the floor laughing then typing that? No they are sitting on their arse typing r o t f l... Madness!

You're missing the point of my post. Unless you're going to manually go out of your way to capitalize every single letter that should be capitalized, it looks really goofy for the first letter of a sentence to be uppercase. For example, if you start a sentence with "I" and then say "i" again somewhere else in the sentence -- because, surprise, you're typing an effing text message and don't capitalize every necessary word -- it just looks really off.

Well anyway, I didn't realize this was a big thing or whatever. I'm new to S60 and Symbian so I was hoping it was just a setting buried somewhere in some menu that I hadn't stumbled across yet. No big deal, and thanks for all your replies.
