Is there a way to force name Photoshop layers when merging?

Usually I could figure this out but I'm stumped. I have a file where all the drawings are pre named. I didn't have a problem coloring before because I had the name I wanted on the lower layer with color on top. But this scene is special because I have the drawing set to luminosity and the color under it. I really don't want to have to retype all of their names over...

Highlight the name of the lower layer in the layers palette, copy, highlight name of upper layer, paste.

No typing required apart from Cmd (Ctrl) -C, Cmd (Ctrl) - V.
