Is there a way to cover up an image with HTML/CSS?

On a game I play I was changing my home page and I was wondering if there was a code that I could use to cover up an image. I know about the "absolute" code for HTML, but I couldn't remember if there was a way to cover up just one image instead of a part of the page. I was reading around on a few websites, but I couldn't find any examples.
Also - I cannot remove the image due to it being the actual image for the website. I do not have access to remove the image.
