Is there a way to bypass the Palm Desktop when putting Apps on my Tungsten E?

I'm just wondering if there's a way to put applications on my Palm Tungsten E without using the Palm Desktop because I am running Vista and I absolutely CAN'T get the usb driver to work. Is there a way to get the apps on my tungsten without using Palm Desktop? i.e. putting the apps directly onto an SD
card
