Is there a way I can view data on home sales over the past ~100 years?

I'm looking at the difference in home sales during the depression and world wars. I've looked on the US census bureau website, however I could only find modern data. Does anyone know where else I could find this info.

If it's not too much trouble, I would also like to find car sales or any other type of major item too, but this is not a must have.
