Is there a value in learning history? Looking for opinions?

I honestly hate history class
but is there a value in learning history?
Why should we learn it?
whats so important about it?
 
First, it gives you an idea, or sense of what those before us lived through, to give you the kind of life and freedom you now enjoy. Secondly, there are always mistakes made in life, and in studying history we get the chance to see them, understand them, and hopefully not repeat them. The study of history is learning from our fore fathers. Kind of like sitting on the back porch, and listening to your grandfather tell stories from when he was a kid.
 
I hate it too, but it's important. Ever heard the saying, "Those who have no knowledge of history are bound to repeat it?" The point is that not knowing history leaves you without a backdrop against which to evaluate current events. And sometimes knowing past patterns will help you avoid repeating them (e.g, if another Hitler comes, people will stop him sooner).

history tells us where we came from and how many different people changed the course of history over the years people have died and fought to give us the advantages we have to day. put it this way if you were the first woman president you would want everybody to remember that. because you did something historic
