Is there a trick to starting a Montana Spray Paint can?

I recently bought a new can of Montana Gold spray paint, with a standard white cap. But the cap doesn't push in or do anything. It just kinda sits there. Am I missing something? I feel like a dunce, but the guy at the art supply store didn't indicate I'd need a special cap or anything...
