Do all sports in each Olympics have trials or qualifying events beforehand? Or are there some where a country just sends an athlete? If so, what are some of those?
I was wondering: Would it be possible, then, to select one of these sports, go to a country that has never fielded an athlete in said sport, and say, "Look, you've never participated in this sport. Do you think you could just send me?" How awesome would that be? (I've got this kind of personality where I desire a life full of little events that I'll tell my grandkids about. How awesome would that be?)
