Is there a simple way to prove that there is space between molecules?

For example : Put a balloon on the top of a vial, place the vial in hot water and the ballon will fill up because of thermal expansion. (proves that there is space between molecules)

would you know of any ways as simple as that to prove that there is space between molecules?
 
Dissolve a cup of sugar in a glass of water. The water doesn't increase in volume, so the sugar must be going somewhere, i.e. between the water molecules.
